Rifò’s innovative project consists of implementing a traceability system based on blockchain technology, aimed at ensuring transparency and traceability of the path followed by the garments collected and destined for circular service. The main objective of the project is to provide end users with real-time updates on the fate of the collected garments, enabling consumers to know the destination of the garments they have donated, thus creating a clear and accountable system that allows them to monitor each stage of the product life cycle.
The system involves the use of QRCode stickers that are applied to each garment, enabling accurate and transparent monitoring of each stage of the process, from collection to reuse or recycling. Through the integration of the PaperTale platform, which uses blockchain technology, every garment transformation and movement is automatically recorded and verified, ensuring transparency and authenticity of the data.
This project aligns with the forthcoming European EPR regulations for responsible textile waste management, which will come into force in Italy by 2026, anticipating the requirements for traceability and waste management in the textile sector and supporting brands and manufacturers in meeting the new regulations. Rifò, in partnership with PaperTale, aims to make the garment collection and sorting process more efficient, competitive and sustainable, while ensuring regulatory compliance and value creation through data digitization and supply chain transparency.

Rifò is an Italian company, founded in 2017 by Niccolò Cipriani and based in Prato, specializing in the creation of accessories and clothing made from regenerated and regenerable fabrics. The company was born as an answer to the problem of unsold clothes destined for destruction, promoting a slow fashion model and the principles of circular economy. Rifò became a B Corp in 2020, emphasizing its commitment to sustainability, responsibility and quality. Its products, such as hats, gloves, and scarves, are mainly made from reclaimed materials such as cashmere, cotton, and jeans.
The name “Rifò” comes from the Tuscan dialect and means “to remake,” in homage to the artisanal tradition of Prato’s textile district, which is known for regenerating fabrics. Rifò adopts a philosophy based on regeneration, reducing the use of natural resources and minimizing waste. Rifò collections mainly use three types of sustainable fibers: regenerated cashmere, regenerated cotton and regenerated jeans.
The regeneration process, devised in Prato over a century ago, transforms waste and old garments into new fibers, drastically reducing the consumption of water, pesticides and chemicals. In addition, by separating garments by color, the need for new dyeing is avoided. Rifò’s goal is to eliminate dependence on virgin raw materials by aiming to reuse existing ones.
Rifò adopts a pre-sale philosophy to counteract overproduction. This strategy makes it possible to produce only what is actually required, minimizing waste and reducing transport-related CO₂ emissions, as well as optimizing resource utilization.
